… why not look into the future, when the past was … only half as good!

We open the windows to the sonic future of electronic sounds and are excited to present three evenings of electroacoustic, acousmatic, live-generated, and projected art. The program pays tribute to Francis Dhomont, a pioneer of acousmatic music, who passed away in December 2023 at the age of 98.

Additionally, you can experience performances by artists from Montréal, Mexico City, Paris, Lisbon, and Vienna, as well as the latest multichannel and ambisonic compositions realized at the Vienna Immersive Sound Studios by The Acousmatic Project.

ACOUSMATIC PLUS PERFORMANCE

We are thrilled to welcome eight outstanding composers and performers from Montréal, members of our new partner institute GRMS (Groupe de Recherche sur la Médiatisation du Son). The GRMS, whose members are also largely part of the Hexagram research network, approaches sound as a creative medium to be explored and shaped in all its facets.

For the first time in its history, the Vienna Acousmonium will be installed in the Schauspielhaus Wien. Here, the full-range speakers of the orchestra will be audible across their entire frequency spectrum. The unique architecture of the performance space, with its different elevation levels, allows for extraordinary soundscapes, making the ephemeral, dynamically-moving sound sculptures conceived by Thomas Gorbach come alive in an exceptional way.

To top off this three-day spectacle, the world’s first of its kind among speaker orchestras, the 64-channel system will be expanded with an Ambisonic Dome from the Ottosonic System. An exciting new auditory experience awaits you, one that will redefine the boundaries of your listening.
