Marco Schretter

Technology development includes the Acousmonium, Space Odyssey, and a DIY 64-channel motor fader mixer.

In 2014, completed an interdisciplinary diploma in Electrical Engineering and Sound Engineering at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz and the Graz University of Technology. The diploma thesis focused on “Improving the Acoustics of Multi-Purpose Halls with Room and Electro-Acoustic Measures.” This was followed by the planning and construction of an “Acoustic Enhancement System” (a loudspeaker-microphone system) to artificially increase the reverberation time of a multi-purpose hall, which earned the Silver Award at the Audio Engineering Society (AES) Design Competition in Berlin in 2014.

Artistic/Technical Activity:

2015: Founded the Dance On Screen Festival in Graz, Austria, which reached its 3rd edition in 2018, featuring 34 international dance films from 13 countries and awarding the “Best Film” and “Audience Award.”

Since 2023: Head of Sound/Video/Streaming at Teatro alla Scala, Milan (Italy)

2019–2023: Deputy Head of Department in Artistic Affairs at Badisches Staatstheater, Karlsruhe (Germany)

2014–2019: Sound and Video Designer at Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus (Germany)

2015: Created an interactive sound installation and acoustic enhancement for “Passion for Nature” at the Gesäuse National Park for the permanent exhibition at the Natural History Museum of Admont Abbey (Austria) (2015–2025)

2017: Audio implementation and programming for the sound installation “Missing Sculpture” in the ‘Sculpture21’ series at Lehmbruck Museum Duisburg (Jan 26 – Mar 19, 2017)

2016/17: Developed loudspeakers and programmed audio technology/control for the rotating, 6-channel sound sculpture “Doppler 1” (4 x 4 x 2.5 m)

2017: Programmed an 8-channel sound installation for an interactive theatre piece by composer Bojan Vuletic

Since 2014: Sound direction, technical direction, and development for the Vienna Acousmonium by The Acousmatic Project

2008–2010: Artistic and business assistant for the FWF project “Embodied Generative Music” at IEM – Kunstuniversität Graz; involved in generating electronic music through body movements using optical motion tracking (Vicon) with dancers

Since 2010: Sound designer and director for dance projects and films by choreographer Valentina Moar
